MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Pennsylvania Yacht Club on February 5, 2008

 

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:05pm. President Jusino introduced Commodore Steve Zielinski, who welcomed the DRYL and thanked everyone for coming. He also thanked John Maloney and Colleen Sproul for setting up and preparing the food.

 

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: All present except Treasurer and Fleet Surgeon.

ROLL CALL OF COMMITTEE HEADS/ORGANIZATIONS: All present except Cruise and Regatta.

ROLL CALL OF CLUBS: 30 clubs present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were accepted as amended.

 

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: President Jusino thanked everyone for coming and distributed artwork suggestions for the new DRYL shirts. A selection will be made under new business. Juice mentioned that a joint meeting of the CBYCA and DRYL will be held in the fall. Date to be announced. Juice continues to investigate the idea of a DRYL uniform and suggested that officers wear black suits to the banquet. Also looking into brochures to promote awareness of the DRYL. Juice received a letter from a club requesting an opportunity to host a DRYL meeting. We will be reviewing host clubs this evening and thought it was a good idea to consider different locations. Reminder: anyone boating in NJ that was born after 1948 must have a boating safety certificate.

1st Vice President: John Maloney – introduced his new granddaughter, Kayla, to the DRYL. John also mentions that he’s been in contact with Allison Schwartz’s office; she is interested in helping with HR2550 issue and learning more about the DRYL.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – attended Quaker City Yacht Club Installation of Officers. Butch introduced Quaker City Man of the Year, Rick Morris, and mentioned that Rick’s daughter is collecting money for the Philadelphia Veterans.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton – no report.

Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – no report.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – February 23, 2008 at Cannstatters. Mary discussed the banquet itinerary and noted that tickets are still available. Contact her at 215-396-1021, or Joe Gricco 610-551-3075. Numbers and information is on the website.

Cruise: Bob Bocock gave report – Cruise starting 7/12-18. No new information, but locations have been selected. More information and applications will be available at the next meeting.

Donations – no report.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgenson – no report.

Pageant: Toni Nespola – Introduced princesses in attendance. Toni distributed information and applications for the Queen’s Pageant. Applications and $150 application fee are due May 8th. Sunday, May 18th will be the first meeting with princesses and commodores. Pictures will be taken and all detailed information will be disseminated. Wednesday, June 4 is the interview and public speaking seminar. Wednesday, August 6 is the preliminary judging at Cannstatters. Pageant will be August 9th at the Seaport Museum. Toni is looking for assistance in fundraising as the costs have gone up. Crown and sash requirements were reviewed. You can find order forms for crowns and sashes on the DRYL website. Let Toni know ASAP if you will have a princess attending the banquet. Clubs should let princesses know their policy on who club will pay for (princess or princess and escort).

Picnic: Joe Gricco – September 6th at Riverside. Trophies will be given at banquet. Committee meetings will begin in April.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – thanked John Maloney for his help with HR2550 issues.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – no report.

Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – Distributed article on boat safety checks and the advantage of having one performed. He also spoke about Waterway Watch Program and handed out decals for your boat with reference numbers to call.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster: Paul Jusino/Ben Lewitt – Webmaster co-chair, Ben Lewitt, spoke about new items on website. Also mentioned they want a new look for site…seeking your ideas. Looking for interesting articles, pictures of past queens and princesses. Any pictures will be scanned and returned.

Yearbook: Denise Leo – Club pages must be turned in, as tonight is the deadline. However, still accepting ads – information must be submitted as soon as possible. Absolute deadline is February 17. Contact Denise at 610-909-7410.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – John Garlotta reported first delegate meeting will be February 16th at Farragut SA at 1pm. CBYCA will be publishing roster book and need updated list of club officers.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – National meeting will be April at Hyannisport YC in MA. Bob continues to work on HR2550 issue. Suggests secretary send letter to Bob Andrews thanking him for his support on R2550.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – Spoke to Rob Andrews office – nothing new. Meeting with Joe Roberts, Assembly speaker, this week. Bob Bocock mentioned some new legislation about waterfront properties being taken for condos.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – Last meeting at Wissinoming Yacht Club on January 16 - presentation made by Captain Ted Harrop of US Coast Guard. Next meeting will be held at Pennsylvania YC in March and Bill handed out newsletter.

NEW BUSINESS

·         Selection of host clubs for DRYL meetings

·         Motion to create name badges for delegates cost $4.50 each to be paid by DRYL. Motion passed.

·         $99.56 paid to secretary for supplies

·         $650 for Seaport Museum deposit

·         $200 to Cannstatters for Pageant

·         $1100 for prize money

·         $286.50 for software for yearbook

·         $1000 to Picnic committee for expenses and trophies

·         $16.68 to President for copies

·         Motion to place full page DRYL ad for $175 in Pennsylvania YC 65th year yearbook. Motion passed.

·         Suggestion to print clubs hosting Poker Run on the back of the shirts. Bill Garwood asked for Delaware River YC to be included in Poker Run.

 

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Checkbook opening balance $16,935.44. Mike Kovacs reported income of $4,650 while Joe Campbell reported disbursements of $3,350.64 resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $18,234.80. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

·         Taking down Tweeter Center sign as it will become Susquehanna Bank Center At the Waterfront

·         National Park Chili Contest on February 15th at noon

·         Bob Steele is the new commodore for River Rats YC

·         Jack Beatty is the new commodore for West End YC

·         John Garlotta has three small outboards for sale

·         Ron Smalls of HHYC lost his house and dog in a fire last week. Please send condolences. DRYL will present proceeds of bottle raffle at banquet.

·         Peggy Zeilinski was the winner of the 50/50 - $70
